Afternoon Training: Leading and Influencing Change in the Model Codes: Effective Participation in the ICC Code Development Process Instructors:Christine Reed & Karyn Beebe This class teaches fire service professionals how to shape and influence changes to the model fire and building codes. It explains how California’s codes connect to the International Code Council’s I‑Codes, walks through the full code development process, and shows the many ways the fire service can participate—especially on issues like wildfire mitigation, energy storage systems, and egress requirements. Participants learn how to work with groups such as the California Fire Prevention Officers, study a real fire‑service‑driven code proposal that gained national attention, and take part in a group exercise to practice the process.
